Sisters Of The New Moon - Topshop Inspired Shoot

Because my 13 year old sister has a better social life than me I had to wait 4 hours after building this set for her to come home so we could shoot! I attempted to do a self portrait shoot but without a tripod it was impossible! So, I'm rolling with "Who says you need a fancy expensive studio" and trying to prove to my peers that fashion photography isn't just snap this snap that. It involves a lot of planning and creativity and also that just because you own an SLR camera, it doesn't make you a photographer unless you know how to use it properly and don't just use it for snaps in the mirror of your self to post on tumblr to make yourself look cool.... breathe rant over.

I've been really inspired by Topshops new make-up range, sisters of the new moon,  buy here!
It's sort of festival chic, meets space ranger I love it, it's fantastic. I did my own twist of the look because my first attempt totally failed.

You see, totally wrong!
In my room before the big change!
(excuse my brace)

For my version of this look I used 3 shades of blue metallic cream shadow ranging from light to dark and did a reverse smokey eye. I then took my eyeliner/marker and traced just above the socket line and added deformed looking triangles to the corners of each eye. You can't really tell in the shoot but I then added cream eyeshadow in a creamy pearly colour to the cheekbone and a darker face sculpting powder under the cheekbone to enhance the structure of the face. For the lips I took a darkish brown lipstick and traced it around the outside of the lips leaving the center of the lips clean. I then added some gold lip gloss to the middle of the lip and blended outwards to give a fuller lip effect.
I can post a video tutorial of this if wanted, let me know :)

Clothing is the Asda silk top and Metalic £7! Topshop trousers from previous post.
Headband was from Primark.

For the set, you won't believe. I've used an foil emergency tent from the Pound Shop tucked over a wardrobe and some Christmas outdoor rope lights really simple! I shot this at night so my blinds were shut so it was pretty dark so I had my big light (main ceeling light) turned on for abit of extra light.

Here comes the quote: Who need a fancy expensive studio???

Hope you enjoyed this post :)

p.s.
Sorry for the ugly watermark, I'm trying out some self promotion!
